EPL Round 21: Blackburn Rovers FC vs Sunderland AFC
By: Lucas | January 3rd, 2008“You get what you deserve in life – we ended up with nothing and that’s what we deserved.”
These were Roy Keane’s words after the 1-0 loss to Blackburn yesterday, but they could just as well describe the whole season. Here are the highlights, which include Dean Whitehead missing his penalty and Benny McCarthy hitting his 5 minutes later, then Dwight Yorke’s shit challenge that saw him get his second yellow.
3 points from 12 over the holiday period: not exactly tearing the world up, and we’re back in the relegation zone for the moment. The season is just into its second half now and Sunderland have to start getting results sooner than later if they’re going to avoid a third consecutive top-flight drop. The transfer window is now open and hopefully there will be good news coming down the pike on this front.
Watching the team, they have their good games and they have their bad games, and I still think they’ve got enough quality to turn this thing around. Wigan comes to the Stadium of Light this weekend for the FA Cup; a win in this game could work wonders for Sunderland’s confidence going into the second half of the season.

To be fair mate, I think both teams should have been docked points for this match. It was freezing cold and the game did nothing to warm us up. If Rovers had lost this I would have been extremely frustrated!
