FA Cup Round 3: Sunderland AFC vs Wigan Athletic FC

By: Lucas | January 5th, 2008

Sunderland shows some lineup maneuvering as we expected: with the addition of on-loan defender Jonny Evans and the return of Nyron Nosworthy from injury, Dean Whitehead can return to the midfield, where he joins Graham Kavanagh (making his first appearance for SAFC since…December ‘06?), Roy O’Donovan (a striker) and Kieran Richardson. Martyn Waghorn gets the start up front alongside Daryl Murphy.

Wigan defeated Sunderland 3-0 at the JJB early in the EPL season, and this would be a good opportunity for revenge. Ha’Way, et cetera!

***HALFTIME***

Wigan up 1-0 on a 19th minute goal by Paul Scharner. I don’t have the game on TV (instead I’ve got Ipswich vs Pompey, an entertaining game until the inexplicable sending-off for Ipswich). Sunderland have managed exactly one shot on goal and Wigan seem to have controlled possession, even with two substitutions in the first half.

***FULLTIME***

3-0 Wigan. Shit.
