I know, you guys were having your Black Cat’s withdrawl, and now that my internet is back at the new place, I can update you on the happenings at the Stadium of Light.

Reaction from Black Cats Boss Steve Bruce

“Andy Reid’s done extremely well with his fitness and conditioning – he’s come back and lost something like nine kilos from last year. All he can do is play like that and he’s posed a few questions.

“That’s the nice part of management, when you’ve got people knocking on the door, so we’ll see what happens.

“It was the first time I’ve seen Craig Gordon live and he made two or three wonderful saves. We were comfortable but the goalkeeper’s had to make a couple of really important saves.”

I almost don’t want to report on the next match we’ve played because it wasn’t a win, and it wasn’t against Stoke. And then bug me to no end, they’re just so boring. But we lost 1-0 and that stinks.

“Our Achilles heel was to defending corner kicks.

“Bolton, Blackburn and now Stoke have asked the questions and three out of five goals we’ve conceded have been from set pieces.

“We were more spirited in the second half but couldn’t deliver that final ball into the box.”

Lyon defender John Mensah is the newest signing for the Black Cats! Steve Bruce once again proving the fact that he’s the man for the job, and with the money behind him, he can show how talented he truly is. A friend of mine who knows the sport (and has played in the EPL, is very impressed with our manager.

Lorik Cana, another one of the many new signings at the Stadium of Light had this to say about Mensah: ‘He is a player I know well. I’ve played against him a number of times in the past, and he is someone who has always impressed me when he has been on the other team. He is a very good player who plays in the best team in France, so that has to say something.

‘He did not play in all of Lyon’s matches last season, but I don’t think people should read too much into that. Lyon are like the Chelsea or the Manchester United of France, and very few players play every game at those clubs.

I like that all these signings are from clubs that are well known, and not some third division club, or from Hearts. While that’s not a slight on Hearts, players coming from Man U, and the French teams are just better than team from the SPL. Face the facts folks this management group knows what they are doing.

A part of me was happy that the Black Cats were going after Darren Bent for creative reasons. Now to be honest, much of that was because I wanted a good line to use as the heading. Sometimes the biggest stories that a writer wants to happen, are because of the creativity.

Steve Bruce had this too say on the club’s site.

Darren is a fantastic player so I’m thrilled to have him at our football club.

He has pace and is a natural finisher so he will be a great addition to our strike force, giving us new attacking options.

“You just have to look at his goalscoring record in the top flight to realise Darren is a huge signing for this football club.”

He joins from Tottenham Hotspur for a club record fee of £10m. The previous record was 9m to Hearts for Goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

It’s great to get online in the morning and find that your club has signed someone. And to sign someone who was a captain of a very successful club in Europe is like hitting the jackpot! Sunderland has confirmed the £5million signing of midfielder Lorik Cana from Marseille on a four-year deal.

From the club’s website:

“I’m delighted to have brought Lorik to the club, especially given the number of clubs who had expressed an interest in signing him,” Bruce told the club’s official website.

“He brings with him a tremendous amount of experience both at club level and internationally and is a great addition to our squad.

“To captain a side of Marseille’s stature says a lot about the player and his character, and I’m sure he’ll go on to be a fantastic signing for Sunderland.”

Houston We Have a signing!

I was getting bored here, it almost came to a point where I was going to talk about SAFC’s history. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, it just can be put off until later. But we have a striker coming into the squad! Frazier Campbell of Man U (surprised? I’m not). He on a four-year deal with the Black Cats.

Manchester United will receive an initial fee of £3.5m, potentially rising to a maximum of £6m.

Speaking exclusively to SAFC TV, Campbell said: “The facilities here are excellent; I had a chat with a few people behind the scenes and everything looks good.

“Sunderland are an ambitious club who are going to go forward with the financial backing they have here now. I know they are looking to bring in quality alongside some very good existing players.

“It was an easy decision to make in the end – I’m eager to get things underway and can’t wait for the season to start.”

“I would have liked to have played more last season, but every experience is a learning experience.

“I want to take what I learned at Spurs last year and apply it during the next four years here.

“Sunderland are a massive club with great ambition and I have a really good gut feeling about this move.”

Now could the giant, Peter Crouch be making his way up the country to Sunderland?

Call me a fan, but I love seeing who is linked to Sunderland. It’s just way too interesting to me, because I have a feeling that there are some people who float these rumors out, who know what they are talking about. Of course, most rumors are proved to be false. I’d take pretty much all of these players. Though I’m surprised there are only three Wigan players rumored here. And why would Crapcastle transfer a player to us? We don’t need any more reserve team players.

WE GOT A DEFENDER, well on loan

What have I been preaching? We need players in. Apparently, St. Ricky has been reading this blog. And that’s just what I need! So St. Ricky welcome to my blog.

Ok, enough of that, we signed Tal Ben Haim from Manchester City, who’s a CB.

Upon signing for the club Tal had this to say: ” “I’m happy to come here, play some football and help Sunderland achieve their targets,” said the former Chelsea centre-back. “I know Ricky [Sbragia] from Bolton and it will be good to work with him again.

“Sunderland should be higher up in the table and I hope that will be the case over the next four months.”

Hopefully, he can provide us what he is saying. I have faith in the club, that it can happen. There’s enough firepower at the front to terrorize the opposition. It’s just we need to stop letting goals in. With Tal in, maybe it will stop, but another top CB would be good. Calling Jonny Evans.

Yawn, no signings? What?

I know it’s a bad global economy, no one is hit harder than your favorite freelance Sunderland Writer. You sometimes need to sell players to make money. But we need some freaking defenders. All this lack of transfer action has made me tired. Or is it the lack of coffee? (Apparently if you drink 7 cups of coffee you start seeing thing, hmmm so if I drink seven cups, would I see a new CB?)

I’m not asking the club to become Real Madrid or Chelsea, but get some new warm bodies in here. I’d take Jonny Evans back in a heartbeat. Heck I’d take Steve Finnan from Espanyol. (He should want to be here, instead of that Hull City Team).

I’m not really asking for to much, it’s not like we are going to sign some all world players but I would expect some players who have Premiership experience. We need to stay up, because the Championship is not worth it. Plus if we go down, we then wouldn’t get Crapcastle and Boro. Those two teams need to always be on the schedule.

Ross Wallace seals permanent Preston deal

Breaking News

From the team website -

Ross Wallace has become a Preston player after signing a permanent contract with the Deepdale club.

The winger, 23, completed the transfer today, for an undisclosed fee, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract with North End.

Wallace, who began his career at Celtic, has played 26 games for the Lilywhites this season while on loan from Sunderland.

Too many players out, and no one in. Gee, didn’t Ricky say he was looking to bring in a defender? When is that going to happen? Next year? We need more players. You can’t keep getting rid of players without bringing in one or two players into the squad.
