No Baines, No Gain?
By: Lucas | July 25th, 2007Wigan Athletic are reporting that young defender Leighton Baines will not be leaving for the Stadium of Light, despite an agreed upon fee thought to be between £6m and £8m. Add Baines to the short list of players (Nugent) who have not succumbed to the allure of playing for Roy Keane. Baines, who is from Liverpool, wants out of the JJB, and is thought to be on his way to Goodison Park to play for his childhood heros Everton.
In more positive transfer news, Boro keeper Mark Schwarzer is now in Keano’s sights, as is Kilmarnock forward Steven Naismith.

Welcome aboard Lucas.
Didn’t Sunderland just sign their left back to a new, long term deal? That might have been why Baines opted against the move. Sunderland seems a better option to me than Wigan, and are far more likely to stay up. Maybe he was afraid of Keano.
I’ll probably have to harass you a bit here and there, because Keano has already been invading the Emerald Isle for talent, which is traditionally Celtic’s domain. I still love the guy though.
I’ll be posting one of my favorite cartoons tomorrow starring Keano and Michael Owen, because the Celts face off with Newcastle in a friendly tomorrow night.
