Depleted squad for City match
By: Lucas | August 28th, 2008
SAFC have confirmed that Steed Malbranque will miss Sunday’s league match vs Manchester City. The French winger twisted his ankle in yesterday’s Carling Cup win at Nottingham Forest, subbing off after only 19 minutes.
Malbranque isn’t the only player who is a question mark for this weekend’s game:
- Michael Chopra has checked himself into a rehab clinic “to sort out his personal problems.” I won’t speculate on what the 24-yr-old Chopra is dealing with, but with a young wife and son, and a promising football career still ahead of him, I only wish the best for him.
- Kieran Richardson, scorer of the cracking opening goal against Tottenham last weekend, has injured his ribs during midweek training, but will be available.
- Pascal Chimbonda was left off the squad for the Spurs match for missing a team bonding session. The Frenchman was back on the field for the win at Forest last night and should be available for the home tie with City.
- Newly arrived from West Ham Utd, center-back Anton Ferdinand is still nursing a hamstring injury and will not be in the squad on Sunday. Not one to sit still, Roy Keane continues to try to bolster his already much improved back line, looking to sign a left-back before the transfer window closes on Monday.
- Strikers Djibril Cisse and David Healy – both of whom scored game-winners on their SAFC debuts in the past week – were both a little banged up after the Forest game. Cisse had cramps and Healy was limping off after full time, but both players are expected to play on Sunday.
