Edwards out; Keano still looking to add players
By: Lucas | August 17th, 2007Carlos Edwards is going to miss a month due to a hamstring injury he picked up during the midweek 2-2 draw at Birmingham City. “I must admit,” said Roy Keane, “I had a feeling he might pick up some kind of injury…. Three games in a week is demanding for all clubs at the start of the season and we have paid for that with losing Carlos.”
But the team has depth, and Edwards’ loss will be compensated for. Kieran Richardson and Anthony Stokes were both left off the squad for the City game, and I’d expect them both to start tomorrow against Wigan Athletic. Also look for center-mid Dickson Etuhu to continue his impressive start to the season. The Nigerian-born Etuhu (pictured), who came to SAFC from Norwich last month, realizes the importance of busting one’s ass in order to stay on the pitch. “We have got a big enough squad here that we can rotate it as much as we want.”
The squad may have depth, but Keane is still looking to add players before the transfer window closes August 31. With Mido going to Middlesbrough, one name being mentioned is Kenwyne Jones, though Keano won’t say what level of interest he actually has in the Saints’ striker.

I won’t be “live-blogging” tomorrow’s game against Wigan, because I will be watching it on tape-delay during this season’s first EPL morning at the world famous Horse Brass Pub here in Portland, Oregon. Mmm, Full English brekkie…hold the black pudding, please…
