EPL Round 12: Sunderland AFC vs Manchester City FC

By: Lucas | November 5th, 2007

Sunderland’s winless streak extended to 6 today with a 1-0 loss to Manchester City.

Boo, I say. And Boo again.

In what was (apparently) a fairly even contest, Stephen Ireland scored in the 67th minute to put City back up to 3rd in the EPL, leapfrogging Blackburn, Chelsea and Portsmouth. The loss is Sunderland’s 7th in 12 league games, and leaves them only one point from the danger zone, with 9.

Considering the number of players who are injured, this isn’t the worst that could have happened. But as Keane and the players have continually maintained, gaining points is important, not moral victories.

Next up is the resumption of the Wear-Tyne Derby, as the team-which-shall-not-be-named visits the Stadium of Light on Saturday. We’ll have Paul McShane back from his 3-match suspension, and it’s possible Carlos Edwards and Dwight Yorke will also be back in the lineup.
