Live Blog (sorta): SAFC vs THFC
By: Lucas | August 11th, 2007I’ve managed to get the game on a super secret innernets that I found here. Currently it’s halftime, scoreless. Spurs have the better of run of play thus far but no real great chances. Sunderland have had a couple including Murphy alone in the box but his touch was heavy and he didn’t manage to get a shot on goal. Stokes looks jittery up front, Gordon made one blunder late that could have been costly, but overall the team looks to be settling down. I’m looking for a Chopra sub sometime around 65′.
It is 5:40am and I’m feeling reasonably awake. Time for more tea before the second half begins.
72′ - still scoreless, Chopra just on for Anthony Stokes, who did not have a great game. Sunderland looking better this half, but no real great chances for either team.

GOAL!! Chopra at the death!! Just when I thought it was going to be a nil-nil draw with a couple of wasted opportunities late (Etuhu missed a golden chance at about 88′) - the ball drops to Michael Chopra’s feet at the penalty spot and he makes no mistake, beating Paul Robinson low and to the right. 1-nil to the Red and White!
Said Chopra: “I was disappointed not to start and desperate to get a goal when I came on. You can’t beat scoring on your debut, especially if you are a Geordie playing for Sunderland. I know what this result means to Sunderland fans and I hope I have shown them how much I want to be here.’

Great game for Sunderland. They have fighting spirit.
I liked what the commentator said about Spurs: “There are lies, damn lies, and then there is pre-season form.”
