More political analysis – please read!

Right, that’s what the marketing experts call an eye catching headline. Who did you vote for? Same as me I hope: Monster Raving Loony! I see Sunderland won the race for the fasted seat to declare a result – pity the lads didn’t show the same turn of speed at Molineux. Ok, that’s enough of this b*llocks, let’s get back to the fitba. It’s looking like our style of play away from home is fundamentally flawed. The statistic of two wins on the road doesn’t lie. We seem to start games at 100mph, but as soon as the opposition get any kind of ‘foot hold in the match’, we concede – with the midfield and strikers seem to inviting unnecessary pressure onto the back four. Both Lorik and Lee have been good signings this season, but am I the only one worried about the amount of games each seems to miss due to injury? If this form had been repeated at home, we’d have been passing the Geordies aboard the relegation bus. We need a more productive ‘leader of the line’ to take some of the pressure of DB. Bent’s style of play is more suited to when we have the ball rather then when we don’t – he likes to run into channels and play on the shoulder of the last defender. We need somebody, not only to chip in with a few goals, but also to hold the ball – allowing the midfield and defence to push further up the park. Is Jones really the ideal partner for Bent? I’m not so sure about that.
So it appears we’ve captured the Paraguay international Cristian Riveros. Tim Vickery (expert in all things South American) seems to rate the lad highly. Given the stage in the club’s development, there’s nothing wrong with making a ‘bums on seats’ type signing to excite the fans. However, if we think back to when Boro brought Brazilians Juninho and Emerson to the UK, South Americans sometimes only have limited value within British culture. They tend to struggle to adjust to the variable climate and can be very ineffective when they don’t have the ball – a preverbal waste of space when playing away from home! Despite their sporadic impact, Boro still ended up outside the premiership; that after parting with a ‘Kings Ransom’ in terms of wages. The lesson here is we need one or two other players to offset Riveros’s undoubted talents before I can see this move being a success. Here’s hoping!
Getting back to an issue vital to the integrity of British society, who was Mackem Mover dancing with the young lassies during the half time interval on Sunday? The lucky fatherless person seems to have made the big time courtesy of the Sunderland Echo.
Finally, my joke of the week: what does Chris Hougton’s War Chest have in common with the Bank of Athens? Answer: they’re both empty!
