News Roundup
By: Lucas | September 28th, 2007Here’s a scattering of information ahead of tomorrow’s match vs Blackburn Rovers at the Stadium of Light.
- Dickson Etuhu will miss this game due to yellow card accumulation, and Roy Keane isn’t too happy about it. “I did not think he would be suspended so early in the season,” said Keano. “That’s disappointing and Dickson will have to learn from that.” Always one to find the silver lining(?), Keane mentioned that at least this will give Etuhu, who received a call-up from Nigeria for their friendly vs Mexico next month, a chance to rest his injured groin. Ahem.
- On the injury front, defender Russell Anderson is out for three months after surgery on his ankle, which he injured vs Luton. Mackem favorite Nyron Nosworthy is also an injury doubt as he nurses his knee; whether or not he plays tomorrow he can feel good about being on Keano’s good side.
- On the non-injury injury front, two Sunderland players faked injury this week, to the chagrin of no one. Craig Gordon and Roy O’Donovan volunteered to take part in the Young First Aider Award, which is sponsored by the EPL and SAFC and “teaches young people how to reduce accidental injuries and provides them with training in emergency care.”
- With the injury and suspensions depleting the squad, Keane is looking to possibly add former Manchester City midfielder Kiki Musampa to the team. “We’ll probably play him in reserve next week and he’s someone we are looking at. There are one or two players that we’re checking out and he is one of them.”
