Sunderland Announce Youth Intake for 2009

By: Stephen | April 7th, 2009

Normally, I don’t blog about what’s happening in the youth at the Stadium of Light. Maybe that’s just short-sided of me. Sometimes you just have to blog about everything. Plus, who knows, some of these players might turn out to be better than Wayne Rooney. So with that said here’s the list: (From the club’s official site).

Here is a list of the 2009 intake:

Dale Connor, goalkeeper, Sunderland
James Armstrong, midfield, Billingham
Brett Elliot, midfield, Jarrow
Louis Laing, defender, Newcastle (England U17 international)
Michael Lamb, defender, Sunderland
Liam Marrs, defender, Cramlington
John Egan, defender, Cork (Ireland U17 international)
Patrick McEleney, striker, Derry (Ireland U17 international)

What’s always good to see, is that we are bringing in some internationals, albeit at the Under 17 level. The younger the internationals we can get in here, the easier it is to turn them into world class players. Now if there would be a better manager at the senior level. Oh wait, I shouldn’t tip my hand at another blog.
