Tis the Season

By: Lucas | December 21st, 2007

soccer-santa.jpgAhead of the Christmas/New Years period, which will see Sunderland play 4 games in 11 days (followed by the FA Cup tie vs Wigan 3 days after that), there are some disconcerting transfer rumors in the air.

First is the report that Chelsea may make a £10m swoop for Kenwyne Jones. Sure, that would be a £4 million return on the investment that brought the Trini striker to Wearside from Southampton; but Kenwyne has been a real huge presence for the Black Cats this season, and to lose him would be to lose our only consistent scoring threat. I hope this rumor is baseless.

Earlier reports that had Jason Roberts making the move from Blackburn to Sunderland have been quashed. Now we read that Keane may still be looking to Ewood Park…at Robbie Savage. All I can say about this is: dear god please no.

Keano will have a chance to check out his potential transfer targets Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt tomorrow when Sunderland visit Reading in a very Irish clash. Liam Miller will miss this match as he serves the 2nd of his 3-game suspension for his red card against Chelsea two weeks ago.

Lots of games in a short span of time: this is a hugely important stretch of the season for Sunderland, and will go a long way toward deciding their fate vis-a-vis relegation. I hope you’re all enjoying the season — good times with good folks and all of that. Stay safe and have fun and, with luck, enjoy the gift of Sunderland success!

HA’WAY LADS!

I know Jones is pretty good, is young, and has been an important player this season, but 1) I can’t believe anyone would offer 10M GBP for him (although if anyone would do it, I guess Chelsea would be the logical choice), and 2) if that price was offered, I can’t believe Sunderland would hesitate for more than a second to make that deal. Hell, at that price, I’d expect Keane to pack Jones’ bags, clean out his house, and hold his hand all the way to London.

Apparently, Santa is bringing the gift of silly money season to England, wrapped with a big, shiny, expensive bow.

Kenwyne Jones is a quality striker and is well worth 10million quid

BUT keano is certain kenwyne will stay at the SOL.
