Tough Win in Dublin

By: Lucas | July 29th, 2007

bohs01etuhu.jpgThe Black Cats yesterday won the opening match of their Irish tour, 1-0 over Bohemians FC, though it was never an easy task. Stern John headed in the only goal of the contest off a cross from Ross Wallace on 78 minutes. John scored after being on the pitch for 5 minutes, having subbed in for far-from-fan-favorite Michael Chopra, who had missed an easy chance less than ten minutes prior, hitting the bar from 6 yards out with an open net. I’m guessing the SAFC faithful will not warm up to former Geordie boy Chopra if he doesn’t convert those chances. Also missing a golden opportunity was fellow £5m signing Kieran Richardson.

“The finishing could have been better,” said Keano, “but that will come, we can work on those things.”

SAFC will travel to Cork City tomorrow and finish their Irish trip on Wednesday in Galway ahead of next Saturday’s friendly against disgraced Italian superpower Juventus.

I hadn’t heard about Sunderland’s friendly against Juventus. Do you think Keano’s boys will be able to wash the “cheat” off? Do people still support Juventus? Are their supporters cheaters by association?
