Addicks Switcheroo
By: Lucas | January 31st, 2008
Sunderland appear set to do a double deal with Charlton Athletic:
Addicks boss Alan Pardew has revealed that he has accepted a £4 million offer for team captain and Ireland midfielder Andy Reid. “A fee has been agreed and Andy Reid is talking to Sunderland.”
Get one and give one, as Roy Keane puts an end to Greg Halford’s “Wearside nightmare” (thanks to A Love Supreme for that phrase) by loaning the defender to Charlton for the remainder of the season.
These are surely the last moves of the January transfer period. Already some of the transfers have paid off (Evans and Bardsley solid in the back, Rade Prica nets a goal within 20 minutes of debuting), and based on the price tag we should expect good things from Reid (who will be our most expensive purchase during this window). With the injuries to Richardson and Edwards, the midfield needs all the bolstering it can get. And on the Halford loan, if nothing else this will help prevent me typing “Rob” whenever I write about the less-than-successful journeyman defender.
