New Year Transfer Tidbits
By: Lucas | December 31st, 2007A few transfer items ahead of the New Year and the January transfer window:
- Daryl Murphy is being sought by QPR, but wants to stay at Sunderland.
- Roy Keane has apparently offered Blackburn £1m for Robbie Savage. But Rovers are asking for £1.5m for the “mercurial” midfielder (and £3 for striker Jason Roberts).
- Reading’s Stephen Hunt will not be making the move to the Stadium of Light.
Saint Niall-of-the-Disco-Pants is going to hand £20 million to Keano, and I hope he can find someone better to spend it on than Robbie Savage. Someone not in their mid-30s with personality “issues.” United defender Wes Brown is still a possibility, and we do need help in the back (hell, we need help all over the park).
Everything is just speculation at this point. What we know for certain is: Sunderland are on a one-game winning streak and have a match in 2 days at Blackburn. Right now getting any kind of result on the road is absolutely vital; a road win would be massively important for what has now become a desperate fight for Premiership survival.
The win over Bolton might not have been pretty (Pete Sixsmith at Salut! Sunderland in fact compares it to a certain Sergio Leone film), but it was huge in the acquisition of 3 points and the return of playmaker Kieran Richardson in the midfield.
Have a Happy New Year, folks. Stay safe and have fun — and if you’re hungover tomorrow just plant yourself in front of the TV and watch a nice full day of football (with maybe a little hair of the dog in your coffee?).
